Trauma Therapy

What is Trauma or Trauma-informed therapy?

This type of therapy is asking the question “what happened to you” not “what’s wrong with you”.  It’s a way of understanding how the variety of emotional, physical, and psychological struggles people face have affected them and cause them to act, think, and feel in certain ways.  This approach creates a non-judgmental safe space and begins the process of healing, self-understanding and empowerment.

A trauma-informed approach can help folks identify and regulate emotions, learn healthy coping skills, understand and enhance the connection to oneself as well as others, and achieve an overall improved quality of life.  It also decreases the chance of “re-traumatizing” an individual, as I am specially trained and experienced in working directly with trauma.

Trauma is the lasting emotional response that often results from living through a distressing event. Experiencing a traumatic event can harm a person's sense of safety, sense of self, and ability to regulate emotions and navigate relationships. There is no such thing as “real” trauma, as events and experiences affect different people in different ways
